Your Very Own IPhone for $299

Apple, a company which never drops their prices, has now dropped the price on the 4GB iPhone to $299 barely two months after introducing the product.

Apple is supposedly a company which never drops their prices. Today, they dropped the price on their flagship iPhone. The 4GB version is now selling for $299.

To take such an action at all is remarkable, but to do it barely 2 months after the product launch is extraordinary.

What does this mean?

It means that the product is an absolute dud with disappointing sales numbers (and a nice screen). It means all of the analysts have overreached with their estimates. It means that Apple's growth is slowing.

Steve Jobs suggested that the reason was so that everyone who wants an iPhone can have one. I guess it also means that Steve Jobs has become generous.

Apple has entered into an industry where they have no business playing and now they are going to be burned.

This is going to make a whole lot of people angry as hell (those who just locked into a contract and spent the big bucks). I think it is a dumb move, one that will come to haunt them for a very long time. What confidence does someone have that they won't do this again? I certainly would never buy one now.

Those loyal Apple users who waited on line for hours to pay $600 are probably ecstatic. :)

Big deal. They're allowed to cut prices. The early buyers got the thrill of owning an iPhone. Anyone who buys technology knows it's going to fall in price. Just like driving a car off the lot.

Apple is making a smart move. The phone was too expensive before.

I bought this phone less than a month ago. I am not sure if I am pissed that they are discontinuing it or pissed that they are selling it out at a firesale, but I am pissed.

Bottom Line: Jobs forgot what made Apple!

Never try to bend over your meal ticket, Jobs!

I am very happy to see that Steve Jobs is willing to give those previous buyers a $100 store credit, which proves that he is genuinely care about the customers. Lowering the price of the iPhone, to me, it makes a lot of sense. Price was too high and now that the drop (less $200), i believe will help Apple to excellerate to a different level. It will move more phones and we will see a blow out earning along with iMacs, iPods ( i like the iTouch which i already ordered today through Apple online order) leopard which is coming out soon...etc. I believe Jobs made a right decision and good luck to you all.....Go Apple!!!
